What was the inspiration behind Pup Oils?

The muse behind Pup Oils is Baby Bishop! From Allergies to anxiety and a sensitive stomach, this Sharpie mix embodied it all. Thanks to my furever problem child, Pup Oils are here to make your furry friend feel their best.

How does your brand differ from other industry brands in the same category? What gives you the competitive edge?

Using essential oils with your pup can be scary, we take the guess work and research out of it. We worked work a vet and pharmacist to pick oils that are safe for all dogs and diluted them to be easy to use for any size and breed of dog, and/or nervous parent.

Describe the ingredients you look for in the products you use.

All our products are made with therapeutic-grade essential oils. All natural & cruelty-free companies are used.

Walk us through your development process — from ideation to the product we see on the shelf.

Ink Oil, our parent company, started when I began getting tattoos and realized I needed something better than the normal ointment to heal. My essential oil-loving mom and pharmacist brother devised a formula that allowed me to get a tattoo and heal with less pain and itching. We expanded to other human products, and once I had Bishop (the problem child Sharpei), we started formulating blends for him. We knew he couldn't be the only pup with allergies, anxiety, and a sensitive stomach, so we launched our Pup Oils Line.

"We want to help as many pups as we can and make more pup parents aware of the benefits for dog in using essential oils."

What are some things you take into consideration during the creation of new products?

Every single one of our products was created for a personal need. I was getting tattooed and struggling to heal, my brother had itchy skin under his beard, my pregnant best friend worried about stretch marks, and as a dog parent, I would do anything to help my pup feel better. If we need these blends, so do others.

Other than Pup Oils, what is something you are passionate about?

That's what's great about my company, it encompasses all my passions. Art, dogs, tattoos, my being with my family and traveling!

What is one major lesson you learned about running a business?

It's HARD. We've been in business for almost 10 years and we still aren't quitting our 9-5s. It's also FUN you have to embrace both. Laugh through it all and hope that you are doing it with people you love!

What are some challenges you have overcome with Pup Oils?

A constant battle we have with our brand and products is awareness. If we can get our products in front of real people we can explain how they work and almost always they are so excited to use it to help their pups. Just scrolling through a website or an instagram account its hard to know what our products even do and who they are for.

What would you say is your most effective marketing channel?

Markets, we love talking to pups and their owners in real life. However markets are expensive and time consuming so we'd love to make other avenues work!

"We knew he couldn't be the only pup with allergies, anxiety, and a sensitive stomach so we launch our Pup Oils line."

Give us the backstory of your brand’s name.

We keep things real simple around here. Ink Oil, Pup Oils; Calm Pup, Itchy Pup, Sick Pup. You know exactly which ailment each product is for and who it's for :)

What would you like to see for Pup Oil's future?

We'd love to grow into a known name in the pet industry. We want to help as many pups as we can and make more pup parents aware of the benefits for dog in using essential oils.

What do you think is the most prominent concern in the pet industry?

What's safe for our pups. I think that's every dog owners first question when picking up a product. Is this safe for my baby?! We want to help pup parents understand our products are!
